Prophylactic versus treatment research

Hi all,
Does anyone know what the approximate proportion of R&D spend / candidate volume is for prophylactic versus treatment medicines?
Should it be heading more in one direction?

Chicken and egg this one. In theory it's better to focus on prevention than cure. However, the more diseases we prevent the more we actually create as we develop an ever older population.
There's a name for this effect but can't remember what it is.

Murphy's (or Sod's) Law, I would have thought. Either way, it means that pharma is not going out of business any time soon...

LOL. Not sure that's the name gs had in mind, but it could well apply!
